Today, let's take a look at the below YouTube video designed as a CLIL History lesson in English on the Roman Empire. CLIL does not have to focus exclusively on revolutions or modern history. Ancient civilizations offer rich opportunities for language development through content as well.
In less than three and a half minutes, this video provides an engaging overview of one of the largest and longest running
world empires in history. It makes excellent use of visuals. The
timelines, maps, images and cartoons quickly engage viewers and encourage them
to learn more.
Teachers can easily segment this video and show it in clips of twenty to thirty seconds to check students' comprehension. They can also use it to introduce a host of scaffolded learning activities for their students.
