Understanding the SAMR Model - Part I - An Introductory Video
Technology in the classroom does not automatically improve learning. Replacing paper with a screen will only change the format, not necessarily the thinking.
So how do we utilize technology to enhance and transform learning?
Enter the SAMR model.
The SAMR model aims to enhance and transform learning in four, scaffolded stages:
Enhancement:
Substitution
Augmentation
Transformation:
Modification
Redefinition
It is important to note that the enhancement stages of substitution and augmentation improve tasks without fundamentally changing them. The transformation stages allow students to do things previously impossible, particularly during redefinition. Many classrooms stop at substitution.
